User security for Samba

We will now have a look at an security model called "User security".
First we need to change the global setting, using swat.

We need to set security=User.
Also note that we enable "encypt/update password"

We now have to create some users:

We create users in the Miami user database.
Make sure you keep order of groups, passwords and other information.

Now we need to export the users from miami:

Then we need to convert the file:

'miamismbpw' can be downloaded from the download section.

Then we should edit the file, and remove users we don't want. I.e Root

For samba to work correct, we need to have another password file as well.
We need this file structure in our Samba: directory.

"private" is the new one.

Here is the contence in the private drawer:

'smbpasswd' an an text file that should be in sych with your Miami info.

Now we can change the password for an user:

User "tigergutt" get his password changed.

Here is how it should look like:

This file contain encrypted versions of passwords and conatin the user database.
Remeber that you have to have correct userID etc.

We need to configure the shares now:

Here we have the goddie stuff :)
We can now configure lot's of rights based on username auth(in smbpasswd)

Password management can be done here in Swat:
